TACOMA ROCKETS & FIRESTREAKS MISSON STATEMENT
The mission of Tacoma Rockets & Firestreaks is to teach the members of the community the sport of ice hockey, developing team play and individual skills through clinics and team competition by emphasizing sportsmanship, cooperation, fun, self-discipline, self-confidence, and respect for others. Tacoma Rockets also strive for the highest level of customer service to the membership to maintain and ensure growth of hockey in the Tacoma and surrounding area.
Tacoma Rockets and Firestreaks offers a hockey program for ages 4–18 at all skill levels.
Our Tacoma Rockets and Firestreaks are divided into two programs. Recreational and Tier II/travel/rep teams. Anyone is welcome to play on a recreational team. To play on a Tier II/travel/rep team, players will need to try out for the team before the season begins.
You will need your 2026/2027 USA Hockey number to register for the season.

2026/2027 SEASON REGISTRATION —Team Hockey (Tacoma Rockets (Youth) /Firestreaks (Girls) priority registration for our returning Tacoma Rockets and Firestreaks will open on June 1st.
Please be prepared to pay the TBD non-refundable registration fee upon registration.
TACOMA ROCKETS & FIRESTREAK TRY OUT INFORMATION HERE
Recreational/House Teams:
- Youth: 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U.
- Girls: 8U, 10U, 12U and 19U
Tier II/National Bound: Register for try outs HERE
- Youth: 14U, 16U, 18U and High School
- Girls: 16U
Travel/Rep: Register for try outs HERE
- Youth: 10UA, 10UB, 12UAAA, 12UAA, 14B and 18B
PLEASE NOTE RE: GIRLS TEAMS – IN THE EVENT WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH GIRLS FOR A RECREATIONAL/HOUSE GIRLS TEAM, YOU WILL BE ROSTERED TO A YOUTH TEAM.
- Registered players will receive a set of game jerseys and socks.
- Players will have two hours on-ice practices during the week and 16 scheduled games within the MHL. Games will be played at Tacoma Twin Rinks and surrounding facilities in the area.
- Players will be able to compete in additional fee-based tournaments.
- Fees do not include possible tournament fees, travel costs or lodging requirements for season.
Tier II/Rep/Travel Team:
- Youth Tier II 14U, 16U & 18U teams will be participating in the Northwest Hockey League
- Girls 16U will be participating in PNAHA League and TBD
- 12UAAA, 12UAA, 14UB, 18UB and High School will be participating in the PNAHA League
- Players will have an additional tryout fee.
- Registered players will receive a set of game jerseys and socks.
- Players will have three hours of on-ice practice during the week. Games will be played at Tacoma Twin Rinks, surrounding facilities in Washington State and some out-of-state travel may be required.
- Players may have fly away tournaments
- Players will be able to compete in additional fee-based tournaments.
- Fees do not include possible tournament fees, travel costs or lodging requirements for season.

ROCKETS LAUNCH PAD (Learn to Play Hockey)
Let’s get ready to launch!
Learn to Skate (USA BASIC 1) or equivalent is Required before registering for Launch Pad 1.
Full hockey gear is required for all learn to play/launch pad programs hockey programs.
We do offer Learn to Skate (USA BASIC 1) programs.

A USA Hockey Membership— (REGISTER HERE) is required prior to stepping on the ice as a hockey player. Once you’ve obtained the USA Hockey Membership, you can now register for Launch Pad Stage 2.
Once you’ve obtained both USA BASIC 1, full hockey gear & your USA Hockey Membership, you may now register for our Rockets Launch Pad program.
Launch Pad Stage 1: Learn to Play ages 4+ —(REGISTER HERE)
This is the first step to gain the necessary skills to play hockey. Launch Pad Stage 1 consists of two steps; this program will focus on skating skills used for hockey. Skaters will learn a variety of skills ranging from forward skating to backward skating on one and two feet, stick handling and some game instruction. We offer numerous 6-week sessions throughout the year.
Launch Pad Stage 1 does require a program code to register. Please e-mail: PugetSoundHockey@comcast.net to obtain the program code.
Launch Pad Stage 2: Team Focused Skills–(REGISTER HERE)
This is where you will learn team focused type skills to use during a game situation. We continue to work on skating skills, but start adding in more passing, shooting, skating with the puck and additional skills that will help you participate with a team. This session is also 6-weeks.
Launch Pad Stage 3: In-House Play— (REGISTER HERE)
This program is for the player that is ready to graduate from lessons and is ready to commit to hockey twice a week for hockey. Players will have one practice and one game a week. All games will be played at Tacoma Twin Rinks versus other house players. There are three 8-week seasons offered throughout the year for Launch Pad State 3. Each player will receive a team jersey and will be placed on one of our in-house teams.
Upon completion of our Rockets Launch Pad Program, you are now ready for: Team Hockey (Tacoma Rockets or Firestreaks) Our Tacoma Rockets are divided into two programs. Recreational and travel teams. Anyone is welcome to play on a recreational team. To play on a travel team, players will need to try out for a travel team before the season begins. Travel team try-out fees may apply.
